Chef Shelley Teaches

Want to strengthen and expand your cooking skills?

Are you tired of your own cooking? Want to strengthen and expand what you know? Let me help you step away from the microwave, break up with DoorDash, and learn to cook real meals simply and well. My private cooking classes also make a great gift—for a newly launched grad, a newly single friend, or an uninspired longtime cook.

Learn in the comfort of your own kitchen

I take real delight in helping my students find their way at the stove to cook with confidence and creativity. Whether your kitchen is uncharted territory or you tackle new dishes with ease, I’ll take you beyond just following recipes. You’ll learn to taste, adapt and invent on your own, and have a lot of fun doing it.

About Chef Shelley

Chef Shelley Handler brings her 40+ years of culinary experience, as first head chef of Cafe Chez Panisse and over a decade of teaching aspiring chefs at the California Culinary Academy, to your very own kitchen.

Seafood Pasta

Class Options

Whether it’s as straightforward as tacos, or mac & cheese from scratch, a perfectly seared rib eye, or a Michelin-facing duck breast sauced with Cabernet, you set the menu.

Knife Skills

Get up close and personal with your blades; learn to use them safely and confidently

Meat

Cook it perfectly by touch. We’ll finesse a rib eye and make the best bar burger or pork chop you ever had.

Pasta

Learn the secrets of a perfect Carbonara, spicy red Arrabbiata, Cacio e Pepe or another of your choice.

Sauces

From a wine-deglazed pan sauce to a classic Hollandaise, you'll be whipping up sauces like a true saucier. Yes, Chef!

Shellfish

San Francisco’s own Cioppino, Mussels steamed with wine and saffron or Spicy Chili Prawns in the shell.

Design your own!

Your choice of two dishes or techniques (and possibly three, if time allows)

Working with Shelley is big fun AND we learned a lot. Not only did Shelley walk us carefully through the recipes we chose, but she talked about each of the ingredients, where to find the freshest, and how to handle and care for the tools we used.
